I needed to write a small piece on climbing in Cheddar Gorge. I actually wanted to write something about why I (and probably you) go climbing. So here goes but if you expect me to avoid talking about "When I was in the Antarctic ………..", or not to mention my favourite subject, ie me, then you might as well pick up a good book instead. That holds true if you don't expect me to ramble either (and I do not mean going for short and not terribly interesting walks). So here goes. Again.

Well I've been asked if I'd like to write something about all those nice foreign trips that I've gone on since I joined the Bowline. Actually there are three lies in that sentence; the trips weren't always pleasant at the time; its not "all" because someone else is writing about a trip to Bolivia that I sort of went on and thirdly, when Ella "asks", you know that putting pen to paper (or at least finger to keyboard) is not really voluntary.
