Spring 1998 - Richard or James will testify I allegedly vowed not to go ice climbing again. Why? - It's too cold (inadequate gloves - alternately frozen hands and hot aches up Ventilator in Corrie an Lochain), I got scared too easily and there was always this nagging feeling that snow didn't have any reason to stay on steep pieces of rock and it might realise this just when I happened to be there (too many lectures on avalanches at Uni.).

Doug & Rob's Excellent Adventure


The backpacking meet had been canned due to a lack of interest and a big threatening storm way out in the Atlantic. Five of us decided to troop off to the hut for the weekend, at least Saturday looked good for some climbing. Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny and the promise of Tremadog at last got us out of our sleeping bags
