Bowline Climbing Club

Ommmmmmmm

6:30am.  It’s cold, dark and raining.  I try to reassure Michelle that this will be fun but I don’t think I sound convincing.

So we take our places in the Medium Score queue.  Female-only teams are in a significant minority but there’s no complaints about being in a field full of men in lycra.  As we’re given our maps, I’m concerned that even the most intense Bradgate park training regime isn’t a match for the heathery slopes that are in front of us.  But over the next six hours we micronavigate our way between points.  Other teams appear and disappear quickly into the clouds.  I hurry to keep up with Michelle’s ghost-like figure in the distance before she disappears into the clouds too.  She can walk faster than I can jog.  Michelle produces a ham sandwich… insistent that this is critical hill food.  I stick to the more conventional.  Flapjack… yay.  A final push down the last hill gets us to the day one finish with four minutes to spare.
