About the Bowline Climbing Club

 The Bowline Climbing Club is an active club based in and around Leicester. Members enjoy activities such as rock climbing, fell running, orienteering, mountain biking, skiing and any other disciplines that get them out into the hills. 

During the summer months club members meet every Tuesday evening at Bradgate Park car park in Newtown Linford where groups go off to do different activities; climbing, running or biking usually. During the winter members meet at The Climbing Station on a Tuesday and also climb at The Tower Climbing Centre on Thursday evenings.

If you are an existing member of a club affiliated to the BMC you can join as a full club member. Associate membership is £15.00, full membership is £20.00 per year and couples may join as joint members at £35 per year.

BMC Affiliated Club

The Bowline is an affiliated club to the BMC. As a member of the club you are also enrolled as a 'club member' to the BMC. The BMC (British Mountaineering Council) are the national governing body representing climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers alike. 

As a club member of the BMC:

  • You are insured with up to £10m worth of Civil liability cover.  Civil liability is if for example; you dislodge a rock onto someone and they sustain injuries, you are covered. This is not personal injury insurance.You can get that cover by upgrading to a full member of the BMC.
  • 10% discounts at outdoor shops when you show your membership card.
  • Discounts off BMC publications i.e. maps and guidebooks.
  • Discount cards are available for using Alpine huts.

Any surplus made from these activities by the BMC is invested back into work that promotes members interests 
i.e. access and conservation, testing of equipment etc.
